RAD MOM

PROGRAM

becky_photoshoot.jpg

Rad Dad was founded in 2020 by Tyler & Becky Harman, with the intention of using its profits to support all our Rad Moms out there who have dealt with maternal mental health disorders.

We are committed to donating 50% of the business’s profits to organizations that provide support-groups, tools and training for healthcare providers, as well as advocate for changes in legislation for maternal mental health.

OUR STORY

This topic is very near and dear to us. After suffering from 2 miscarriages in 2014 and 2018, we finally welcomed our son, Cooper, to the world in 2019. It was love at first sight, but we had no idea what would be in store the following weeks.

Three weeks after giving birth, Becky began to have severe postpartum anxiety that wreaked havoc on her life. She could not eat or sleep, and eventually, her anxiety and lack of sleep led to severe depression, to the point where she felt like Tyler and Cooper would be better off without her. After seeking help from her primary care doctor, the ER, and other medical professionals, she still didn't feel better. Nobody knew how to help her.

At 5 weeks postpartum, Becky’s thoughts and feelings had turned very dark, and she knew she needed help. After another visit to the ER and a 5-day stay in an inpatient psychiatric facility, she finally connected with a non-profit organization that educated her and sent her to an intensive outpatient program where she finally got the care she needed. She was diagnosed with PTSD from her previous miscarriages, as well as postpartum anxiety and depression.

OUR PROMISE

She made a promise to herself that she would work to make changes in the medical system and educate others on Maternal Mental Health. She is now a Certified Perinatal Mental Health professional and works to ensure other women going through what she went through, don't feel like they are alone.

Maternal Mental Health issues are extremely common, but rarely ever talked about openly. Worse, most primary care providers and even specialists like OBGYNs don’t know the signs to look for or where to point their patients to get the care they need. And because of that, many new moms are blindsided with mental health issues, and some go on to live with these conditions for years. This sucks.

So when you buy something from Rad Dad, you help close the gaps for Rad Moms everywhere suffering from Maternal Mental Health Disorders.

So go on, and buy some Rad gear for the whole family!
